Sherman's March through the Confederate, slave-owning South was brutal but so is any war. And it was necessary to win the American Civil War, which the Southern states started. They have no room to complain. Southern secessionists were just as brutal if not more so and there is plenty of evidence that they were. Whenever they came across African American soldiers they never took them prisoners, they always arbitrarily executed them. They also deliberately starved to death the prisoners that they did take in concentration camps. There are photos available showing Northern Army prisoners of war completely emaciated, living skin and bones just like Nazi concentration camp prisoners.
