Robyn O'Brien, who has an MBA, has done business analysis for corporations and is
the mother of four children speaks eloquently of her awakening to the health effects of
American food after her daughter had a severe allergic reaction. To me, it reveals how
a heritage of scarcity consciousness apparently leads those in corporate management
to the belief that "we can't afford to care." It is also a real indictment of the capitalist
system when ignoring health consequences and treating your customers like guinea pigs
is - as Ms O'Brien points out - more profitable than keeping products off the market until
they're proven safe.
