train cat to poop in litter box

Our problem with Thor continues. We are trying new ideas, but we will not have him destroyed.

My 10 yr, old male cat very friendly, usually pees in litter box, but some times on newspaper, tile, rugs.
Pooping is a major problem. We have tried 7 litter boxes & every type of litter. Currently using World's Best Litter (yes, it's great). He poops on tiles, floor, rugs, outside on the enclosed deck. He has been taken to UC Davis & local animal behaviorist has come to the house. Of course, top vet, regular check ups.
He has been confined to small areas.
Any suggestions? Has anyone actually encountered this problem? There are 2 15 yr. old m & f cats. They all get along.
    Thanks.

Thank you to everyone regarding our cat, and especially when we were worried that our Norwegian Forest cat needed to be an outside cat in an area free of raccoons.

    Happily our problems have resolved.

My niece consulted with animal behaviorist and finally came up with having one big box with no litter or anything in it. One or two with litter also. He likes to poop in box with no litter and pee in the one with litter.
