Living Legacy Storytelling: Celebrate the 160th year of St. John's Church in Petaluma
One of the most precious gifts any community possesses is the memory of its own past. This memory lives in our elders, who are a living link to persons and events that shaped the present, and in the stories we pass down from generation to generation. One of the great strengths of the church is this continuity of memory. It helps us understand ourselves more deeply, as members of a community that endures through time. We are bearers of an identity that, though it changes as the larger culture does, does not drift aimlessly with the shifting tides, but is anchored in place by generations of experience, and the constant work of remembering where we come from and who we are meant to be. St. John’s Vestry invites you to four community gatherings dedicated to this work.
Join us in Norm Cram Parish Hall at 530 C Street at 4:30 for refreshment and casual conversation, followed by the sharing of stories. We will conclude the evening with a potluck supper.
The tentative schedule of events in the series is:
• Sunday, February 28 - St. John’s in the mid-20th century.
• Sunday, March 13 - Exile and return: Conflict and schism, 1980s to 2009.
• Sunday, April 17 - The first 100 years: Treasures from the parish archives.
• Sunday, May 15 - Finding ourselves in the story: How does our history live now?
