Cheese Curd Basket Weaving Workshop
Join us, Saturday Septmeber 21st, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for a day of traditional basket weaving! Charles Kennard, a long-time student of California Indian and European basketry, will be teaching how to make southern Italian-style fiscelle baskets (cheese strainers) out of Juncus. We will also demonstrate how to make a ricotta salata cheese. Quick weavers may be able to use their own basket to make cheese that afternoon! This type of twined-weave basket was traditionally made by shepherds while pasturing their flocks.
Location: Heron Hall, Laguna Environmental Center 900 Sanford Rd. (corner of Occidental Rd.), Santa Rosa, CA 95401 $75 ($65 Laguna Foundation members). This workshop is for adults (18 years and up). Advanced registration required: http://www.lagunafoundation.org/laguna_walks_classes.shtml
