    Join us for an evening with GayeLeBaron, local historian, lecturer, and senior columnist for the PressDemocrat, as she shares how early 20th century farmers created asignificant agricultural economy in the Laguna area.

    Gaye LeBaron is a nativeCalifornian and a 60-year resident of Sonoma County. She wrote her first column for The PressDemocrat, after several years as a reporter, in 1959 and was the daily columnistuntil her retirement in 2001. Shecontinues to contribute a “historical perspective” column twice monthly. She is the author, with three otherresearchers, of a two-volume local history -- “Santa Rosa, a 19th CenturyTown,” and “Santa Rosa a 20th Century Town.” She lectured, for 35 years, on Sonoma County history in SRJC’s CommunityEducation program and has taught several courses for Sonoma State University’sOsher Lifelong Learning Institute.

    The Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundationworks to preserve, restore, and increase public appreciation and enjoyment ofthe Laguna de Santa Rosa, the largest tributary of the Russian River and SonomaCounty’s richest wildlife area. TheFoundation’s programs restore and enhance wildlife habitat, provide classroomand field trip learning experiences for school children, conduct scientificresearch, and create opportunities for the public to learn about and experiencethe Laguna’s wonders. We workcollaboratively with landowners, public agencies and partner organizations toimprove the Laguna’s ability to support wildlife, improve water quality,provide flood protection and enhance our quality of life with outdoorrecreation opportunities.
