English Country dances are easy, fun, friendly and inclusive. No experience is necessary and newcomers are welcome. All dances are taught and prompted, and feature great live music. Come alone or bring a friend. Come early for an orientation/simpler dances. Wear comfortable clothes and low, smooth-soled shoes. “If you can walk, you can do this form of dance!”

English Country dances are a variety of spirited and graceful community dances from the 1600's to today, emphasizing movement and interaction rather than steps. The live music features lively jigs and reels, lyrical triple-time melodies, and waltzes. We sometimes have recorder, percussion, flute, concertina, hurdy-gurdy, and other instruments. If you’ve seen the dancing in Jane Austen movies, that’s an early form of ECD.

Sponsored by the North Bay Country Dance Society—promoting and producing American and English folk and ritual dancing, music and song in the Wine Country – just north of San Francisco.

Scent-free dancing appreciated – please refrain from wearing scented products as many people have severe allergies (note: Wischemann Hall is a fragrance-free hall). Parents please note: all non–dancing children must be supervised.

Contra dance is a form of couples’ folk dance that emphasizes pattern, flow and rhythm. Easier dances are at the beginning of the evening, then a break for snacks and socializing, then more complex contras. It's a fun workout for your mind, body and soul - a great way to end the weekend!
