I hope this posting is not inappropriate for Wacco.
So far, at least 100,000 Haitians have been killed in the severe earthquake that occurred on Tuesday. Houses and shanties, hospitals and orphanages, schools and crowded supermarkets -- entire neighborhoods were razed. Cries for help can be heard beneath the rubble. Badly injured people (many crying out in pain), as well as bodies, line the streets.
Countries all over the world are mobilizing to send rescue teams, monetary aide, medical personnel, water, food, medicines and painkillers). There is also the challenge of reaching these areas, because roads have been destroyed.
We all watched in horror at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; as Californians, we are no strangers to earthquakes; and as members of a caring West County community, I hope we can find it in our hearts to contribute to this effort.
Contributing ONLINE to the Red Cross is one way to help. Perhaps local businesses, workplaces, restaurants, public libraries, and places of commerce -- such as Whole Foods (regardless the freshness of its deli section) -- could be places for small or large contributions.
I don't have television, but even on-line source make us all aware of how badly help is needed for our Haitian neighbors.
Many thanks.
