Sorry for the poorly-timed post. The message arrived from the Organic Consumers Association late this afternoon:

On Monday, April 29, the nine members of the California State Assembly's Natural Resources Committee will decide the fate of AB 1301 (D- Bloom), a bill that would impose a state moratorium on fracking and mandate a review of the controversial practice’s health and environmental impacts.

Please call Committee members today and help put an end to fracking in California! Click here for their names and numbers.

These nine members of the California State Assembly's Natural Resources Committee must hear from you by Monday morning at the latest.

Call instructions: When your call is answered, just say "I am calling in support of AB 1301, the bill to place a moratorium on fracking in California." You may be asked to provide your name and the city where you live. It’s easy, and you can do it from the convenience of your own home.

Fracking and farms cannot co-exist, as we’ve heard over and over from farmers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Dakota, West Virginia and Colorado. Fracking has been shown to contaminate groundwater, destroy farmland and increase the incidence of asthma and cancer.

Fracking wells have already sprung up in California, including in the Bay Delta, the hills above Ventura, Kern County and the heart of Los Angeles. The 15 billion barrels of oil lies beneath the Monterey Shale is next on “the frackers” hit list – unless we pass AB 1301.

Without clean air and clean water, there are no farms. Without farms, there is no food.

Please call today.

Thank you!

Katherine, for the whole team at the Organic Consumers Association
