Dear Hearts and Gentle People,

Last night at the Cotati City Council meeting, the Council agreed to enact a moratorium on issuing business permits to Starbucks-like formula chain food stores, to allow time to establish public forums to discuss the impact of these stores have on communities.

If you are so moved, please take a minute to write to the City Council members and City Manager to thank them for their diligence in dealing with this issue which is of concern to so many of us.

Many of you may not know that the Council had already placed restrictions against drive-throughs
in Cotati (think about how huge that is!) and also had enacted certain other design restrictions which inhibit chains.

Only when we discovered that there would be a Starbucks virtually in our front yard, did we realize that there was more to do to protect our beloved Cotati from the invasion of the cookie cutters.

Thanks to each of you who showed up at City Hall the last two meetings. As the sign on the wall in the planning department says:

“Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful committed citizens
can change the world;
indeed, it’s the only thing that ever does “ Margaret Mead

many thanks,
