Committee on the Shelterless - COTS Home-Sharing Program
Contact Coordinator: Amy Appleton, 707.241.5124
COTS has launched a new Home-Sharing Program offering at no cost to the Sonoma County community, thanks to a generous grant from anonymous donors. The goal of this program is to pair:
a) Home-seekers in need of affordable, home-sharing arrangements, with home-providers who own their home, but who require rental income, special services, or companionship in order to remain in their home, and
b) Renters who are seeking other renters to share a home, apartment or condominium.
What is Home-Sharing? Home-Sharing is a living arrangement in which two or more unrelated individuals share a home, apartment or condominium. Typically, each person has their own bedroom and possibly bathroom, but shares common living spaces such as the kitchen, dining, living room and yard.
Benefits of home-sharing include a reduction of housing expenses, companionship, independence and security. Some individuals may be interested in home-sharing due to life transitioning which might include divorce, loss of spouse, educational pursuits and/or company downsizing. Home-sharing benefits both individuals and the community by preserving homes and promoting affordable, alternative housing solutions for the Sonoma County community.
There are several types of home-sharing:
