Yesterday I attended the "unveiling" of two beautiful murals in Santa Rosa. The artist is Sebastopol's own Dana Vallarino. The murals are beautiful additions to the neighborhood, and Dana carefully selected the theme of her art by considering the area where they will be displayed. Her murals were the subject of an article in the PD this week.
Sebastopol is fortunate to have Dana as both a citizen and as the winning muralist for our own Sebastopol Mural Project. Her design for the retaining on Edman Way is a beautiful depiction of the seasons. Due to the well publicized complications with redevelopment funding, the project is delayed until spring of 2012. Disappointing, but so worth the wait for this beautiul mural.
Dana was intent on doing the mural for her hometown. To have such a gifted artist submit her design that depicts the local flavor of Sebastopol was a gratifying result to the project. Congratulations, Dana.
We appreciate the other artists who entered their work in the project. We hope to see more mural projects around the city in the future.
