West County Emergency Shelter

Job Title: Hosts/Hostesses

CHOW is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide shelter for unsheltered adult, provide access to resources to assist clients into permanent housing, and advocate for the elimination of homelessness. CHOW operates the West County Emergency Shelter, an emergency night shelter located at St. Hubert’s Hall in Guerneville, CA.

Responsibilities: Under the direct management of the Shelter Supervisor, the volunteer host or hostess will welcome and greet guests as they arrive, assist with sign-in and intake inventory procedures. Hosts and hostesses are also asked to help with evening set-up, supply and bedding distribution.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of issues relating to homelessness
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Creativity, friendliness, and a sense of humor
  • Ability to take direction and to work autonomously when necessary
  • Willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Community Options Housing West.

Time Commitment: Volunteers hosts/hostess shifts are 5pm to 9pm. Volunteers are asked to make a commitment of at least 2 nights per month.
