The following article illustrates my assertion that influence from the AMA , AARP, and the drug companies on the current health care debate is designed to create pork for drug companies and not for the benefit of patients. As the prices of drugs continue to rise and cause financial strain in the private sector the drug industry hopes to continue its gouging by passing the costs off to the government as it did with the Medicare drug program. Listening to a discussion on the radio as I am writing this, a caller working in the convention industry just reported that at a recent HMO conference he worked, the industry was predicting a 10% to 15% annual rise in profits for the next few years. In an economy that has stagnated this will only be accomplished by overcharging and under-serving members.
