WILLOW CREEK WATERSHED EDUCATION PROGRAM,
SONOMA COAST CITIZEN ACTION TEAM (CAT), AND
THE SONOMA COAST INTERPRETIVE DOCENT PROGRAM
NEEDS DOCENTS & VOLUNTEERS

The Willow Creek watershed is a magnificent natural resource area, located inland, just south of the town of Jenner. Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods (Stewards) and California State Parks are recruiting docents and volunteers for educational and stewardship programs in the watershed. The Willow Creek Watershed Education Program is an opportunity for docents to work with middle school students in their classrooms and in the field to assist them in gaining an understanding of the components of a healthy watershed. Sonoma Coast Citizen Action Team (CAT) volunteers help monitor the health of the watershed by conducting water quality monitoring and also assist with stewardship projects at different locations on Sonoma Coast State Beach. Docents are also needed to lead scheduled interpretive outings on Sonoma Coast including Willow Creek.

An Orientation will be held Saturday, March 31, 2007 from 10:00 am - 3:30 pm at the Armstrong Volunteer Center and in the Willow Creek watershed. Topics will include specific information on the Willow Creek Watershed and the efforts to restore it as viable salmon habitat, as well as an orientation to the education program, and information on the flora and fauna on Sonoma Coast. Participants should bring a lunch and warm, waterproof clothing as part of the day will be spent in the watershed.

These programs are part of the California State Parks “Volunteer in Parks” program and are supported by Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, the nonprofit interpretive organization that works cooperatively with State Parks in the Russian River District to provide educational and stewardship opportunities.

Volunteers who work 16 hours a year receive a day use pass for the Russian River District State Parks and those who work 200 hours earn a statewide pass.
