4 Reasons to Come to a Weekly Laughter Club
“Seven days with out laughter makes one weak” ~Mort Walker
Hearty – Laughter needs to be vigorous and loud. Do you ever stifle
your laughter because hearty vigorous laughter is judged as
inappropriate in everyday life? The supportive environment of a
laughter club allows you to laugh heartily and loudly.
Unconditional - You don’t have to have a tiger chasing after you to
make you run; you can choose to run because you want the benefits.
You do not need jokes or comedy to laugh; you can choose to laugh as
a form of exercise for the health of it. Dr. Kataria once said, “Laughter
is too important to rely on jokes.”
Gut – Our bellies process more than just the food we eat. Ninety
percent of the feel good hormone, Serotonin, is produced in the gut.
Deep belly laughs massage the internal organs. When laughter
engages the diaphragm and the abdominal muscles, old stale air is
flushed out, thus substantially increasing the supply of fresh oxygen.
Let your laughter come from the belly.
Extended - Dr. Michael Miller of the University of Maryland revealed
laughter’s benefits in his 2005 study. He found that to reap the
therapeutic rewards, laughter must be extended. He says, “a good
hearty laugh for 15 to 20 minutes a day is good for cardiac health.” If
you add up all the day’s short bursts of laughter, it might total a few
minutes. This is simply not enough to receive the scientifically proven
health benefits of laughter.
Laughter Yoga is a unique health craze sweeping the world that was developed by Madan Kataria, a medical doctor from India. To get the scientifically proven health benefits from laughter it must be extended for 15 to 20 minutes. Most laughter is conditioned and usually lasts for just a few seconds. Through laughter yoga you can laugh heartily for an extended period because it does not rely on humor, jokes or comedy. When laughter is simulated as a body exercise in a group, with eye contact and childlike playfulness it becomes genuine spontaneous contagious laughter.
