This should anger you greatly,
Yesterday afternoon, the New York Times reported that Mick Mulvaney - interim head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, said the following to a group of bankers:
“We had a hierarchy in my office in Congress. If you’re a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn’t talk to you. If you’re a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you.”
This is one of those things everyone in the political establishment knows but few dare say aloud. It’s both appalling and common knowledge at the same time.
But most Americans know it. It’s quite obvious. And that is one of the reasons our presidential campaign did so well. We proved, in a way never seen before, that it is possible for the 99 percent of Americans to defeat the 1 percent fighting to maintain the status quo.
This year, Bernie is traveling the country working to elect progressives willing to take on an economic and political system that stacks the deck against working people. And you know Bernie, he isn’t asking millionaires or billionaires to fund that effort. Just like our presidential campaign, it will only happen if we’re in it together:
Make a $50 donation to keep Bernie traveling the country, rallying and electing progressives. Like our campaign, this effort is funded by lots of people giving small amounts of money. So your support matters. Chip in today.
The great challenge we face is whether the United States will be a vibrant democracy with a strong middle class or whether people like Mick Mulvaney will exacerbate our slide into an oligarchy.
Your donation matters, because we can never change a corrupt system of campaign finance by taking its money. It will only happen when people have had enough and are willing to fight back. That is the political revolution.
All my best,
Jeff Weaver
