Pay $8 to go to the Sonoma County beach? WRITE AND SPEAK UP NOW, OR PAY UP FROM NOW ON.

Millions of OUR dollars are spent on TOTAL BS. Now government want to bilk more out of us, under the guise of 'protecting our coasts'. SPEAK UP NOW --- OR PAY, AND PAY, AND PAY. Write your comment now, and pass this along. jude

Coastal access has always been a public right, in my lifetime at least, so this is a reversal of decades of Coastal Commission policy. Thanks for your concern, and please pass it on.

Hello – State Parks has released the latest details on its proposal to collect parking fees at select park units along the Sonoma County coast. Detailed information on this proposal can now be reviewed and downloaded at https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=28717. We invite you to visit this website and to submit any feedback you may have on the proposal to [email protected].

Alternatively, you may send written comments directly to the California Coastal Commission (Commission) in care of Nancy Cave (North Central Coast District Manager) at 45 Fremont Street Suite 2000, San Francisco, CA 94105 or by e-mail at [email protected].

The Commission will hold a hearing on the Sonoma Coast State Park Fee Proposal during its April 13-15meeting in Santa Rosa. All comments and responses will be forwarded to the Commission for their review. In addition, State Parks will respond to comments received before April 8 and those comments and their corresponding responses will be posted at https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=28717. Comments received after April 8, but prior to the Commission hearing on this proposal will be forwarded to the Commission without response, but State Parks will attempt to respond to the substance of any such comments at the Commission hearing.

Thank you for providing feedback on the Sonoma Coast Fee Proposal. The proposal is an effort to balance input from the local community, the requirements of the Coastal Act and protection of the natural and cultural resources of the state parks system.

    Sincerely,
    Karl Knapp
Acting Chief Deputy Director, California State Parks

you've had good luck with your choice of lifetime - it's only been a public right for a few decades, certainly not 'always', and it's by no means assured to stay that way. Looks like it's time to have to have the fight all over again. Fortunately there are a lot of people who have also grown up with the expectation that much of California's outdoors is available for public use. Maybe they'll be easier to engage this time. Of course, some of us have been dealing with ever-increasing limitations on public access for years, whether imposed for selfish reasons or by those who just have different, theoretically more virtuous, reasons for denying access. It's not only fatcats who want to limit use of land to those who are like themselves and share their values. And maybe even they feel self-righteous about their efforts at preservation rather than use.
