It was recently reported on KSRO that someone was poisoning animals in the Sebastopol area with cookies they made containing oleander.
Yes, you read that right…these people TOOK THE TIME TO MAKE THE POISONOUS COOKIES, and then fed them to animals (horses, dogs, llamas, goats) in the Sebastopol area. If you don’t know, oleander is what they have used as highway and freeway shoulder and center divider plants. Oleanders are poisonous and animals will not voluntarily eat the leaves or flowers at all. But when mixed in to a treat, animals may not be able to notice the poison.
Keep your animals safe, be aware of strangers approaching and trying to “feed” your animal, especially if you have fencing that is just off the road you live on. If you see anything suspicious, please call the Tip Line at
707-565- 2185. The Sonoma County Sheriff Department has a report on file.
