I just noticed that Grocery Outlet is having a sale on Waggin Train Chicken Jerky Treats. I've read about problems with these before, but until more dogs die, they won't be recalled. It's up to us to share this information among ourselves, on our FB page, and anywhere we can think of, to save dogs lives, especially our own. So, here's what I found out: See consumer reports: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/wagg...
Three Name Brands Top FDA List of Chicken Jerky Treats Suspects.
Reports of serious illness in dogs associated with the consumption of Chinese-made chicken jerky treats continue to be filed by pet owners.
Canyon Creek Chicken Jerky Treats
Yet the exact cause of these illnesses still remains a mystery. After extensive laboratory testing, FDA officials have been unable to uncover a specific contaminant. So, to date, there have been no official product recalls. However, according to a recent article posted by msn.com, FDA documents obtained by the publisher suggest a possible link to three popular chicken jerky products and their big name producers:
Waggin’ Train Jerky Treats or Tenders (Nestle Purina)
Canyon Creek Ranch Jerky Treats or Tenders (Nestle Purina)
Milo’s Kitchen Home-Style Dog Treats (Del Monte Corp)
However, the FDA stated in its latest official bulletin: “No specific products have been recalled because a definitive cause has not been determined.”
Most times a vet will not associate illness with pet food or treats, but will initiate various tests to determine what might be the cause. And the bill goes higher and higher, with no definitive cause. Even after a pet has died, there may be no association with pet food or treats, and therefore goes "unreported".
Vets receive recall information, but if a food hasn't been recalled, there's no correlation. No one is going to protect us or our beloved pets. We owe it to ourselves to be informed and aware, or suffer the consequences.
