Good Samaritan pays off over 100 people's layaway items at Walmart

More than 100 families received an unexpected holiday treat when they found out a good Samaritan paid off their layaway items at a Walmart in Tulsa, Okla.

The anonymous donor paid off the layaway balances of 114 families and gave each one an additional $100 store gift card. The amount spent at the store totaled $37,775 and this is the second year in a row the same anonymous donor paid off layaway accounts, according to Tulsa World.

"He just contacted us yesterday and we called the store and they said tomorrow is the last day to pay off layaways before everything goes back on the shelf," said Maj. Jim Taylor, area commander for the Salvation Army in Tulsa. "So we were able to get together with Walmart and the donor and pay off the layaway costs and now all of those individuals will be contacted."

Tonya Ramsey, one of the customers whose layaway account was paid off by the donor, was excited when Walmart called Thursday to say she no longer had a layaway balance.

"My kids and my grandkids are going to have an awesome Christmas now," Ramsey said.

Store employees said that they're looking forward to delivering the good news to the families whose accounts were paid off, according to Tulsa World. The donor expressed his desire for others to give whatever they can.

"All I want," Taylor said, quoting the donor, "is for people to do good things for other people."
