WeedMaps News:
At the stroke of midnight on Tuesday night, Oregon's Measure 91 went into effect, legalizing marijuana for adults 21 and over! It allows Oregonians to grow up to 4 plants and to give small amounts of cannabis as a gift. We are living through a truly monumental moment - Oregon is the 4th state in the U.S. to implement legalized marijuana!
The "gifting" part of Measure 91 was taken full advantage of Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Growers and weed lovers handed out free marijuana to anyone who stopped by to celebrate in numerous locations. The Portland chapter of NORML handed out seeds and joints to hundreds along the Burnside Bridge in celebration of the historic day. Police officers just keeping an eye around the area didn't mind any of the activities.
Senate Bill 460, which if passed, will allow for some medical marijuana dispensaries to sell recreational cannabis starting October 1st, still needs to pass the Oregon House and be signed by the Governor. One frustrating provision of SB 460 is that it only allows for the purchase of retail cannabis and excludes concentrates and edibles.
