For The Birds

It must be that wintery-cold time of year
When birds fly south and honk with good cheer.
Forming a vee formation or shaped like a fan
As they fly off in search of a warmer wonderland.

The food is exotic down on those beaches of golden sands
Where they’ll mate, hatch some young or work on their winter tans.
They’ll miss Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Solstice, and even Christmas too
As they bask on the southern coast where the skies are still azure blue.

Just sitting here freezing while all the trees go bare
As they bask in the warm sun without me, with nary a care.
So, I’ll just hunker down here in this thick California tule fog
and sip some good cheer with this golden booze-spiked egg-nog
And defrost my frost-bitten toes beside this blazing yule log.
