The 15% figure published by PD is perhaps a diminished perspective because the percentage of all votes cast is different from the percentage of voters. Each voter could vote three times. 2354 people cast ballots in Sebastopol, and 848 of those (36%) voted for Jonathan. This happened in light of the fact that every local political organization (except Progressive Sebastopol), and every incumbent opposed Jonathans candidacy.
Jonathan received over a third of the voters support, also despite a smear campaign. The group that produced it is the first primary formed committee to oppose a specific candidate in Sebastopol's history.
The support for Jonathan is an indication that the people of Sebastopol are looking for the ideas that Jonathan was running on. The attack ad is an indication that the political establishment of Sebastopol is entrenched, and will lash out at anyone who challenges its rule. This is dismaying for the young member of my generation trying to find faith in a system of government, and discouraging to anyone seeking to run for office on progressive ideals.
