Local Station Board Elections are Happening Now!
Your Vote is Your Voice!
Peace & Justice Center of Sonoma County
467 Sebastopol Ave., Santa Rosa
(off Santa Rosa Ave., near Juilliard Park)
Why Should I Vote in the Current KPFA Station Board Election?
In 1999 hundreds of people mobilized in Sonoma County in support of the movement to rescue KPFA from a self selected Pacifica Board that shut down the station. Listeners and staff demonstrated in the streets, in the media and won in the courts, to reverse a top-down takeover of Pacifica and KPFA. A democratic process was put in place for a listener elected Board. It is the responsibility of KPFA/Pacifica listener-members to maintain the democratic process by voting in the KPFA Local Station Board (LSB) election.
As the governing body, the LSB has specific functions and responsibilities. The LSB collaborates with management, helps set the station’s vision and direction, and helps to develop policies that reflect the community needs for programing, information, education, and communication.
Independent media is in danger of disappearing. Please vote in support of the democratic process that ensures KPFA continues to serve the mission of peace and social justice. Grassroots governance and electing your fellow listeners to serve on the LSB are essential to keeping KPFA alive, independent and serving its diverse community members.
Ballots are due September 30
