    The Room

    The Room
    by Timothy R. Yates

    The room smelled like death.
I only left it to score or take a leak
Or peer in the fridge for a long while
Before deciding to do another shot.
My world had shrunk into the room
    Leaving me breathless and alert
    For things that never occurred.

She shared that room with me.
We fought most all the time because
Our habits could never quite agree as
We lied to each other about what truth was.
    Day in and day out
It turned out to be bloody toilet paper,
    Arguments over wants and needs.

Death was such a tease in that room,
Worse than she was with her lies and deceits.
Transfixed, tantalized, I split my affection
    Between my lover and death.
Our dance macabre was nothing more
Than a pitiful joke that backfired
Into a room that smelled like death.

    Re: The Room

I have noticed that there are exclamation points in my poem when I read it on my e-mail or when I see it on this site. Except for right here where the edit button is. So forgive me for not knowing a lot about how to operate this computer of mine.

Thank you for reading my poem, and if you see those offending exclamations and know how I can get rid of them, do let me know. I hate it when a misplaced exclamation mark makes me feel all giddy, only to be dropped to the lowest piece of depression on Earth in an instant.

I'll try posting another poem, and see if I can do it right.

Hey this poem is interesting I'm not sure about the "room" smelling like death, but the feeling of loss that accompanies death of love, right. And anger. Spit and piss
ejaculate I guess too and maybe just when you know its all a dance and a joke, I can say this but I don't SMELL anything in this poem except the shot in the beginning what was it tequila or whiskey or what??
