    New List of Senior Discounts!

sent to me by a friend:

As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 gets 10% off everything on the menu, every day.

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.

This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50 .

Re: New List of Senior Discounts!

Thank you for posting this! Much of the restaurants and grocery places don't appeal to me but the other categories are good to know. To add to this, locally, Ace Hardware gives senior discounts on Wednesdays, and so does Oliver's until 3 PM. Community Market use to...don't know if they are going to reinstate it. Do others know of any other local businesses that give discounts to those of us who are aging gracefully?

Well, I, too, don't care about the fast food choices, and I'm amazed by the "40% Wednesday" discount for KMart listed here; I tried to call KMart to check that, but don't find a listing in the phone book.......

It's a shame that we have to "ask" for the discount. I proudly wear my graying hair. I feel it's degrading to have to "ask". Most of the places that were listed we don't have in Sonoma county - some are no longer in business.
If in doubt - ask for discount.

California Fresh (formerly Fresh Choice) in Rohnert Park gives a discount to seniors, though it's marked as a AAA discount. I'm not sure what age it starts at.

Fiesta (Pacific) Market gives 10% off to seniors over 60 on Tuesdays, Oliver's on Wednesdays. Ace Hardware gives 20% off first Sat of the month to all and on first Wed of month to seniors. Baskin Robbins in Redwood Plaza gives 10% off to seniors all the time. As someone who uses these discounts regularly, I've asked several of these places why I have to "ask" for the discount. Apparently, there have been complaints from non-seniors who were wrongly labeled. Go figure. Personally I don't see it as "asking"---I'm just letting them know I am eligible at a happy 68 years of age.

Re: New List of Senior Discounts!

OK; I checked KMart, and they do NOT give senior discounts of 40% on Wednesdays, or any other day; I thought that was too good to be true, and I hope that some of the rest of the discounts listed are valid....
