Opening this week at the Rialto Cinemas

    Week of April 26 - May 2

Greetings from Rialto Cinemas! The following filming are opening this week:

We're delighted to open Mud this week. This adventure is about two boys, Ellis and Neckbone who agree to help a fugitive hiding out on an island near their small Mississippi town reunite with his true love. The fugitive, named Mud (Matthew McConaughey) describes fantastic scenarios-he killed a man in Texas and vengeful bounty hunters are coming to get him. He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon), who is waiting for him in town. David Edelstein writing in New York Magazine says, "Its storytelling is fluid... what a pleasure it is to see Witherspoon (like McConaughey) liberated from the minstrel show that is the studio rom-com..." Read the complete review here.

We're thrilled to have The Company You Keep open here this week! A wanted man (Robert Redford) and former member of the revolutionary militant group the Weather Underground goes on the run after a journalist (Shia LaBeouf) outs him. Michael O'Sullivan writing in the Washington Post says, "At its core, 'The Company You Keep' is a good, solid thriller about a fugitive trying to clear his name. But it's a much more interesting movie at the edges." Read his great review here.

Bopping into our lineup this week is The Sapphires. Inspired by a true story, The Sapphires follows four vivacious, young and talented Australian Aboriginal girls from a remote mission as they learn about love, friendship and war when their all girl group The Sapphires entertains the U.S. troops in Vietnam in 1968. G. Allen Johnson of the San Francisco Chronicle says, "There's nothing surprising about this feel-good Australian musical comedy-drama focusing on four singing Aboriginal soul sisters who entertain U.S. troops in 1968 Vietnam. But don't let that stop you. It's a delight, packed with classic Motown covers and based on a true story. The film may be predictable and formulaic, but it is a winning formula." Don't miss this one!

Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!is NPR's weekly hour-long quiz program (heard locally at 11am Saturdays on KQED-FM). Each week on the radio you can test your knowledge against some of the best and brightest in the news and entertainment world while figuring out what's real news and what's made up. It is a highly entertaining format and that is without visuals! Join us for the first ever Wait Wait Live, the audio and visual broadcast at Rialto Cinemas! The show, warts and all will be visible to our audience on Thursday, May 2 at 8pm. The rumor is that Steve Martin is the guest for "Not My Job". If any of the previous rings a bell or if you are an uninitiated news junkie this is an evening for you! Tickets are available here.
