Voter Guide: Proposition 32 - Ban on corporate and union contributions

    From the Pacific Sun:

NO - Laughingly titled the "paycheck protection" initiative by supporters, Prop. 32 would prohibit unions and corporations from using payroll-deducted funds for political purposes. Sounds fair, right? Labor and management would have the same lobbying restrictions—the playing field remains unequivocally even! Uh-huh. Except for the fact that unions' very existence depends on collecting dues for the purpose of being politically active on behalf of workers. Corporations? Not so much. They use profits—not payroll deductions—to contribute to politicians, quite often politicians who aren't so friendly to workers. The spurious ballot argument for Prop. 32 claims it will "cut the money ties between special interests and politicians"—yeah, but only the interests of the unions this initiative is intended to bust.

CA Democratic Party: No - Creates special exemptions for billionaires and Super PACs allowing them to buy elections

CA Green Party: No - Proposition 32 is a frontal assault on the ability of unions to participate in the political process, to the advantage of corporations, disguised as campaign finance reform. The Green Party unconditionally opposes it.

    What do you think?
