    Local Sebastopol election and CVS/Chase

It is looking like a large part of the city council election will be about CVS/Chase and whether it will really go through. It is not over yet. Go to the Sebastopol Tomorrow web site to learn more and how you can help:

    Friends,
Things are heating up for the Nov. 6 Sebastopol City Council election. There are many important issues at stake in Sebastopol - the future vision of our town.

Please visit our web site to learn more about the issues:
    https://www.sebastopoltomorrow.org/index.html

Please go to our Facebook page and "Like" us: https://www.facebook.com/SebastopolTomorrow

CVS is a pivotal issue in this campaign. Kathleen Shaffer and Kathy Austin supported it. This is a good indication of future decisions they would make if elected. Shaffer claims that she didn't want it but had to vote for it. Check out this email from her that implies otherwise:

Re: Local Sebastopol election and CVS/Chase

Important Update re Traffic and CVS

Cal Trans has not yet given permission for access to CVS/Chase via left turn off Hwy 12 (Sebastopol Road) and Hwy 116 through "pedestrian plaza". See the letter at

    https://ci.sebastopol.ca.us/sites/de...e_09.20.12.pdf

This was received by City dated 9/20/12...The Planning Director was on vacation so not posted until today, when he has returned.

Read it carefully - it pertains to "Conditions of Approval" (COA) for both the left turn off Hwy 12- Sebastopol Road and the right turn off Hwy 116 - Petaluma Ave through the pedestrian plaza.

The August 15 conversation referred to in the first paragraph was the PD updating a new Cal Trans person on status of project.

The salient points of the letter are that Cal Trans. requires more information and documentation before it issues their permission for accesses from Hwys 12 and 116, both of which are under State jurisdiction.

    Onward!

Re: Local Sebastopol election and CVS/Chase

During my 20 years living in Sebastopol, the Nov. 6 election seems to be the most important so far. It will determine whether we remain with our small town charm, or get further dominated by mega-corporations. If you live within the city limits, please vote for Robert Jacob and John Eder. They have not only come out against CVS/Chase dominating our downtown, but they are both willing to work cooperatively with others to make the kinds of changes that can help us weather the worsening storms of the financial crisis. They are genuinely committed to sustainability.

If you live outside the city limits in West County, do not let anyone try to bully you into thinking that Sebastopol is not your town. It is the hub of our precious living community. Your voice is important, not just your business. Please speak with your friends and neighbors and invite them to the candidates forum this Thursday, 7 p.m. at the Sebastopol Grange, which is slightly outside the city limits on Highway 12, which would become a nightmare of traffic, if we do not get Robert & John elected. They are both members of our growing, thriving Grange, which supports Prop. 37 to label GMOs.
    Glad to be a Granger,
    Shepherd

In this case, when asked if the CVS/Chase thing is a done deal; I've been publicly saying; the fat lady is on the stage, but she's not yet delivered her first note.

Don't let the misguided choir here fool you into thinking there are only 2 candidates standing up to this kind of ill suited development.

The primary difference between they and I; is the long history of supportive actions I have constantly taken on all issues which erode our safety, economic solvency and equity, and small town quality of life - for the last decade.

The evidence is laid out in the last 10 years of: City Council meeting video footage; my posts to WaCCoBB both yahoogroup and .net; my participation in WaCCo Singles, my community service time + resources spent on Board of Directors meetings and special events with non-profit groups focused on: sustainability, Green Energy & Building, watershed protection. Also during city, county, state public meetings regarding: municipal partnerships with local Occupy groups; solutions for government's worse practices, promotion of its best ones; utilities, natural resources management, social justice, Constitutional Law & Rights, domestic violence, public oversight of law enforcement; balanced budgets for appropriate appropriations without: unmanageable debt, and being in defiance of Constitutional and International Law.

The other 2 anti-CVS candidates have a narrower focus and much shorter track record on issues of concern for the majority here.

So while you can be assured of how those 2 will vote on a single issue which diminishes our safety and quality of life; there are many other vital issues where there's no record of their positions you can trust to give you the assurance you need to know that our true majority's array of core values is defended to the degree needed.

    :

My aim is to make Sebastopol safer and stronger.

Time for a new model now. Every local government is in risk of bankruptcy if we don't reverse course on our moral and fiscal debt of unconstitutional war. "Occupying our Constitution" is the only option which has the power to peacefully overturn the unconstitutional actions of our Federal government and Supreme Court.

This will restore the taxes needed to provide our basic services. That burden shouldn't continue solely on ratepayers, and taxes from individuals and small businesses.

I'm the only candidate here working to represent the 99%; running to Occupy our City Council for our common good. Working together to guide ideal updates for our General Plan, other regulations, or de-regulations..

Getting the Occupy movement to partner with local and state government for our mutual best interest, can succeed in getting the 2/3rds required to overturn the Federal laws which aren't working for us; such as: Citizens United, Patriot Act, NDAA, etc.

We can weave the best we all have to offer for an inheritable future; as we decrease the toxic ways of living, working and “politics as usual” which aren't serving us.

Every seat is the People’s seat

Why did they schedule this for the same day as the VP debate?! Argh! Sebastopol political gatherings are second only to Petaluma!

Of course, you can listen to the VP debate in the parking lot, in your car, on the radio and then go in to the council debate. We'll be airing it live on KSRO 1350AM

I watched the beginning of the debate and recorded the rest to watch after the Sebastopol debate. (also listened a bit in the car to KSRO!) I think it was a challenge to find a night with an available space, all five candidates available plus the moderators! Busy time of year.
