On this beautiful Fall Equinox day, a reminder of why all children deserve equal protection, equal treatment before the law, and equal respect for their human rights. Here are two stories about what happens when that is not the case.

Confessions of a Circumcised Woman
The author is an American woman who was "circumcised" by an American pediatrician at an American medical facility at the request of her Jewish-converted-to-Catholic (???) American mother. Assuming that the essay was written in the past year or so, this "procedure" took place in the late 1970s.

Thanks to a federal law prohibiting any sort of modification (or mutilation) of a minor female's genitals for any reason passed in 1997, girls are now protected from having this done to them. Boys, however, are still totally unprotected from having their genitals modified (or mutilated) for any reason -- or no particular reason -- at the request of only one parent or guardian.

Wishing they were left intact: adult men discuss their circumcisions
Think all circumcised men are happy about that or those who aren't have some sort of problem? Think again. These men discuss how they feel about having been robbed of their birthright, their civil and human rights having been violated, and the effect on their relationship with their parents.
