The so-called 'Monsanto riders,' quietly slipped into the multi-billion dollar FY 2013 Agricultural Appropriations bill, would require - not just allow - but require the Secretary of Agriculture to grant a temporary permit for the planting or cultivation of a genetically engineered crop, even if a federal court has ordered the planting be halted until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed. All the farmer or the biotech producer has to do is ask.

It's coming up for a vote SOON. (Makes one wonder WHO is being represented by our elected officials?)

IMO ~ It is UNACCEPTABLE for the FY 2013 Agricultural Appropriations bill to require the Secretary of Agriculture to grant ANY planting / cultivation permits of genetically engineered crops, if a federal court has ordered planting be halted until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed.

Allowing such riders would make a shambles of environmental protections AND the checks and balances of our legal / governmental system.
