Redwoods before vines

EDITOR: Regarding Monday’s story about the Artesa vineyard conversion project near Annapolis (“Vineyard project nears approval”): We live in the land of the redwoods.
Remember “Redwood Empire”? It’s not the other way around. They are not among us. We live in their land.

Where else do redwoods grow? Nowhere else.

So what? Here’s what. Only a small fraction of the old growth and second growth redwoods remain.
Not to keep what’s unique and singularly beautiful, awe inspiring, is to be slobs here. Trashing the majestic landmark of a place — these incomparable redwood trees — for handfuls of silver is a sin and a shame.
Even an atheist like me can recognize that.
