The GOP's new-old plan to destroy medicare and SSI: ThinkProgress

Budget #4 looks good to me!

The GOP’s New-Old Plan to Destroy Medicare & Social Security

By ThinkProgress War Room on Jul 19, 2011 at 4:26 pm
A Sneak Attack on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Everything Else

We are now frighteningly close to a default on our obligations with just two short weeks to go until Aug. 2. So what is the GOP doing? Offering up more pointless political stunts and wasting precious time by putting forward radical bills that have absolutely no chance of passing the Senate and which the president has already promised to veto.
The House of Representatives today considered and passed the so-called “Cut, Cap, and Balance” plan (more accurately described as the “Duck, Dodge, and Dismantle” plan), a plan that is just like the GOP’s disastrous budget plan passed earlier this year — except much, much worse. This new plan — the GOP budget plan on steroids — is a wolf in sheep’s clothing that would require almost immediate, deep spending cuts. And instead of merely doing this by legislation, this plan would impose the GOP’s budget on America by manipulating our Constitution. Under this plan, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security would come in for deep cuts in the years to come.

Re: The GOP's new-old plan to destroy medicare and SSI: ThinkProgress

The GOP is clear on one inescapable fact - we cannot continue to spend money that we do not have. That is guaranteed destruction of this nation. In fact, it is the plan. It has been, since enemies of US prosperity realized that if our nation was debt-free, that would be bad for them. Here, let them explain it:

"If that mischievous financial policy, which had its origin in the North American Republic, should become indurated down to a fixture, then that Government will furnish its own money without cost. It will pay off debts and be without a debt. It will have all the money necessary to carry on its commerce. It will become prosperous beyond precedent in the history of the civilized governments of the world. The brains and the wealth of all countries will go to North America. That government must be destroyed, or it will destroy every monarchy on the globe." - London Times

They're accomplishing the goal of destroying our nation by reversing the wisdom of Abraham Lincoln, who had restored Constitutionally lawful control of US currency.

As today's Republicans try to halt the willful destruction of the United States, the other side pursues that agenda. They are pushing our nation, as hard as they can, down the same slope followed by so many others that crashed and burned. Greece, in flames and riots, is their inspiration to push us ever harder into unrecoverable debt.

    I propose a solution:

Do not raise the debt ceiling. Only allow continuation of Constitutionally mandated spending - meaning, the military. Also, since Social Security is just a holding account that people have already put their money into, there is no reason to suggest they should stop getting their money back.

For everything else, let the public servants determine how much actual tax revenue is coming in then haggle over what can be funded by it.

It's time to push the Reset button.
