    Breaking news! Earlier today, California’s legislature passed the strongest renewable energy requirement in the country, which Governor Jerry Brown is expected to sign.

    This landmark law will require all California electric utilities to provide at least a third of their electricity from clean and secure renewable sources like the wind and the sun by the year 2020. This means cleaner air, new clean energy jobs, and lower global warming emissions for California.

    UCS experts and supporters, along with our partners, have been working on this legislation for more than three years. Letters, phone calls, meetings with elected officials, and other efforts from clean energy supporters like you ensured that the governor and state legislators prioritized this important policy as part of a green jobs economic stimulus package that will help our state innovate and grow while protecting the environment.
