Seeking Help for Injured Little Pigeon

We are hoping to find help for a pretty little pigeon, probably young, and injured. She/he was in the chicken coop yesterday - we have no idea how it came to be there. It could walk but could not fly (seems to have some wounds under its wing), and one of the chickens attacked it when they came in -- this was obviously terrifying for the poor little thing and it pushed itself behind the feed can. I got the chickens out and left, hoping the little bird would scoot out on her own.

When we went back later she has not left the coop but was was still there, pacing around. We retrieved her and put her in a box with straw, water and some scratch. As of today she is alert and mobile, but not flying. She ate some of the the scratch and apparently drank some water. We are minimizing contact because it's obviously very traumatic for her to see us looming over her.

If you know of anyone who houses and cares for such birds while they heal, please do let us know. We don't have the skill or equipment to do so, and she is a lovely little thing who may just recover her ability to fly and go on to live a nice pigeon life.

    Thank you,

    The Bird Rescue Center

It says they rescue "native" birds. Don't know if pigeons qualify.

I've never known them to turn away any bird.
Please leave a donation or offer to volunteer some time. They work their fannies off at the Center, especially this time of year, what with the young birds falling out of nests etc.

The Bird Rescue Center does not take pigeons, they are not native. But there are usually volunteers that work there that do take on pigeons so ask when you call. 523-2473.

Re: Seeking Help for Injured Little Pigeon

Thank you! Through great fortune a woman in Santa Rosa on the international "Pigeon-Talk" chatroom/network just contacted me and will get this little one tomorrow. If I find another non-native bird in this situation again, I will call the Bird Rescue Center to see about a volunteers who might help pigeons -- I really appreciate that tip.
