Dear Friends of State Parks,

Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods is working with the California State Parks Foundation to support a proposed ballot measure for November of 2010 that will provide sustainable funding for our State Parks into the future.

The measure is called the "California State Parks and Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund Act of 2010" and calls on Californians to support their state park system and wildlife conservation areas by paying $18 annually for a State Park Access Pass (SPAP) surcharge on vehicle license fees. The SPAP would provide California drivers with free day-use in our State Parks.

In order for the measure to qualify for the ballot we need volunteers to assist with gathering approximately 800,000 signatures from January until April. The first of many workshops throughout the state will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2009 from 10:00 - Noon in Santa Rosa. We would greatly appreciate you spreading the word to your members and friends. It is mandatory for signature gatherers to attend a workshop. Those interested should contact the Stewards office by email at [email protected] or by phone (707) 869-9177 to make a reservation and for directions to the workshop. For those interested, but not able to attend this workshop, please let us know so we can add you to the list for the next workshop that will take place after the first of the year.

We would also like to encourage individuals to endorse the campaign. You can do that at: State Parks Access Pass

We thank you very much for your help. This ballot measure is an extremely important opportunity for us to protect our State Parks legacy into the future.

My Best and Happy Holidays,

Michele Luna, Executive Director
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods
