    Annexing Mexico?

The turbulence that continues to churn up the Rio Grande foams with toxins, corrosives and heartache. Krazy Killer Kartels out of control, wholesale beheadings, murder, mayhem. Nafta doesn't work, Mexicans stream across the border with virtual impunity, melt into the migratory menudo, cut your lawn, feed your kids...and become 'virtual' citizens sans documentation.
I think the best way to get control over these issues is to legalize marijuana and annex Mexico. We bring 100 million people under our benificent National Umbrella, make sure they're fed, educated, repaired and happy, and we get to share in Mexico's bountiful, largely untapped natural resources. No more Fence, sneaking across borders, surreptitiousness, unholy conflagrations, hungry campesinos. We'll all have lots more room, more cultural wealth and geophysical diversity, cheaper Ganja, and a greater World Presence - and less hostility, divisiveness and poverty. We can make Mexico our 51st state and if Canada, Belgium and Switzerland can deal with being multilingual countries, so can we.
Anyone have any opinions or comments?

Most Mexicans I know I would expect to have strong opinions about these proposals. Besides, I believe Texas is already considering this plan once they secede.

Hey I think we are paying enough for these --------, unless you have plenty of money to fund that s----- idea, once we clear our country of these illegals watch the crime go down and our medical cost drop, not to mention how much better our school;s would be, and whatever you want to add, the chinese people come over here and can't wait to learn english and ect. illegals are against the law. I am only against illegals, my grandparents came here the legal way thru ellis island. well enough said.

    Re: Annexing Mexico?

I sense a bit of tongue in cheek here with your annexing idea.

I work with many people from south of our U.S. border. All of them are working hard and speak english ok, or are making an effort to learn it better. They all seem very proud of THEIR country and and I can't imagine that they would want it to join, or be taken over (annexed) by the U.S.

Heck, big U.S. business would hate the idea cause then they wouldn't have access to the cheap labor and few environmental restrictions for their businesses down there and their source of cheap labor up here.

Most of these folks I know came here to work and when they have enough money they like to buy a nice house and a business back home and go there to live or retire. They don't want to stay in the U.S. and become citizens, but this is where the money is, so they come here to work so they can accomplish their dreams.

There are many problems with the border, immigration, work permits, crime, and the cultural differences of our countries... and I don't think that a simple answer like annexing, and another bong-load, will solve them. (no offense intended)

It does start a conversation though and from that, maybe understanding and solutions.

    I AM OFFENDED, TOMCAT!

I do believe that many more bong-loads would go very far in solving lots of our problems, especially with the immigration issue, the flu virus, etc.

What we need to do is require all senators and representatives in Congress to smoke marijuana before debating and voting on any legislation. Just envision this scenario: congressmen sitting with each other, Republicans and Democrats alike, passing around the pipe (or bong, or refer, etc) and taking a few hits. It would undoubtedly give our political leadership a different perspective on everything and I for one strongly support this idea. This would help enact much of the public policy that this country desperately needs.

    What do you all think?

    Re: Annexing Mexico?

Yes indeed -- perhaps most of us can agree that the current situation is not working and it is harming the citizenry on both sides of the border. The fundamental problem is the corporatocracy that has grown over both countries like ivy.

Definitely legalize marijuana! It's ironic that in the 1930s weed was made illegal in the US largely to get rid of Mexican illegal aliens who were flooding the American labor pool and taking jobs from American citizens. Weed also was associated with other "undesirables" like Negro jazz musicians, so criminalization gave cops a good reason to raid jazz clubs and make arrests. How ironic that now one of the best ways to get rid of Mexican illegal aliens and the crime syndicate that has grown up around smuggling and selling weed is to DE-criminalize it.

As far as merging with Mexico... that would break the US financially. Remember what a huge economic burden it was for West Germany to reunite with East Germany when the USSR fell apart? Multiply that by 10 and you have some idea of the magnitude. Hell, we can't take decent care of our own citizens.

However, we can take some cues from European countries that have essentially opened their borders to workers from neighboring countries. If there were no illegal labor and everybody had to be paid and treated the same, I think that we would soon see that most jobs being done by braceros from south of the border would be filled by American citizens, and the volume of imported labor would soon diminish. (Farm labor would probably be an exception to this for a few years since most Americans have no experience with farming.) Clearly walls and enforcement and militarization of the border does not work and it wastes tremendous amounts of money. It is time for something completely different.

    Re: Annexing Mexico?

I believe in legalizing marijuana. I also think though that a better way to eliminate the problems with drug cartels is through the pot consumer.
People should only grow their own or if needed, buy marijuana direct from a grower that they know.
Not through dealers or pot clubs. This eliminates the profit to illegal businesses such as the Mexican drug cartels.

As to Mexico as 'a' state - there are over 110,000,000 in Mexico. They have 31 states already. That would mean they should get 62 US senators.

I don't see the point if the main issue is illegal workers. There is no such thing as illegal immigration - if you are not legal, you cannot be an immigrant. If we create an amnesty, the person is no longer illegal and becomes an immigrant. Sons and daughters born here are not illegal and are automatic citizens.

Its really about legality to work or live here. Legal workers get paid comparably whether citizens or not for the same work. Since there are millions of illegal workers, wages are depressed and workers are mistreated. Illegal workers can be partially resolved through stronger enforcement of workplace laws. If US citizens/legal immigrants get fines and/or jail time for hiring illegal workers, that problem would become MUCH smaller over time. While it will never go away, it can become significantly reduced quickly. We all know that - no one wants to push for enforcement. If it happened, illegal workers would find themselves locked out of the workplace. Businesses that depend on illegal workers may go out of business or have to pay living wages to attract legal workers.
Maybe we would reduce the corrosive nature of treating other people as 'illegal' workers. How to do that? Give them a legal way to work and stop worrying about whether they are immigrants or not.

    Re: Annexing Mexico?

see im engaged to an illegal mexican and personally i think it would be a good idea.... i mean we are all people and all equal so why should the illegals be treated any diffferently? the government should really break down that fence so that way they wouldn't have to sneak over.... mexicans personally deserve just as much freedom as any american. Every person has the freedom to go where they want and i think that mexicans also have that choice, I see nothing wrong with that. I actually wanted them to take down that fence for the past 4 years. I hope other people who read this I really hope some of you agree with me and or side with me.
I think is the US has money to get all those countries I bet we have enough to get Mexico and add it as our 51st state. Plus how is mexico any different from all those other countries? I think it would be a splended idea, I like change.
And the part about legalizing marijauna, I really have to disagree with that. I say it should be used only for medical purposes and nothing else....
    Thanx

Why should we allow them to violate the laws of this nation and get away with it? Truly, we MUST treat them the same. The US Constitution mandates that all illegal invaders must be repelled from US soil, Article IV, Section 4. Equal treatment under the law means that the law is actually enforced.

Quote mexicans personally deserve just as much freedom as any american
I agree. And they can earn theirs, in their country, the same way we earned ours. Americans stood up to their own corrupt government and forced it out of power, instituting a form of government based on laws that would protect their Rights and their Liberty. They deserve to make the same effort in their country that was made here.

Quote Every person has the freedom to go where they want and i think that mexicans also have that choice
You seem to think it's okay for Al Qaida to just walk into the United States. They are "persons" too. The fact is, all illegal invaders demonstrate that they disregard the laws of this nation and therefore forfeit any claim to "deserving" the same things as the law-abiding Citizens of this nation.

Quote I think is the US has money to get all those countries I bet we have enough to get Mexico and add it as our 51st state.
The problem is, that would allow the population of a foreign nation to outvote Americans. First thing they'll vote for is to get "stimulus" money, seized from Americans.

This is what the illegal invasion is really about. In their own words, not mine.
