In the case of Dutra vs Shollenberger Park: Public Record Re-Opened & New Hearing Set!

    Date: Mon, 23 Feb 2009 22:04:50 -0800
Subject: Public Record Re-Opened & New Hearing Set!
    From: [email protected]

Dear Concerned Citizen & Friend of Shollenberger Park,

In a surprising development, the Sonoma County Planning Commission
has re-opened the public record on Land Use alterations proposed by
the Dutra Group for their pending Asphalt Plant at Haystack Landing
and will hold a public hearing on March 5th to consider and make a
recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. Express your concerns
about altering the existing Land Use at Haystack Landing to allow for
the construction of this plant. This can include the destruction of
the Scenic Corridor, noise impacts on birds and park users,
industrial use next to a wildlife preserve and wetlands, toxic run
off of storm water, impact on fish ecology, etc. These are all
issues that could result from re-zoning and amending the General Plan.

Written comments submitted by this Thursday (2/26) will be included
in the packet submitted to the planning commissioners, but comments
will be accepted up to and during the March 5th hearing.

Email your statements to Steve Padovan

There is strength in numbers. Please stand with us at this meeting:

Asphalt plant s noise subject of county hearing next week | Petaluma360.com | Petaluma Argus-Courier | Petaluma, CA

The Sonoma County Planning Commission meets next week to consider changes to a General Plan noise policy that would allow the creation of a controversial asphalt plant south of Petaluma.

The plant and concrete recycling facility, given a tentative approval by county supervisors on Feb. 3, would generate noise greater than currently allowed for the 38-acre site known as Haystack Landing.

Two riverside residences near the Petaluma Boulevard South property would be subject to increased noise from the plant, so the planning commission will consider a General Plan amendment allowing greater noise at the project site.
“We’re seeking to allow them to have some exceeding of noise standards,” county planner Steve Padovan said.

Restrictions on hours of operation and the installation of new windows paid for by the plant operator, Dutra Materials, would cut down on the noise at nearby homes, the project’s environmental impact report says.

The Board of Supervisors granted preliminary approval for the plant on a 4-1 straw vote this month, directing that the issue return for a final vote March 24.

Next week’s planning commission hearing is at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Permit and Resource Management Department, 2550 Ventura Ave. in Santa Rosa.
