    Howard Dean for HHS Secretary

Now that Tom Daschle has withdrawn his nomination as Secretary for Health and Human Services, Howard Dean is the best man for the job.

Yesterday, everyone was talking about Tom Daschle withdrawing from consideration for the position. That means today is our first chance to start telling people about why Gov. Dean is an excellent choice. Conventional wisdom sets in pretty quickly in DC so we only have a small window to get the ball rolling.

Right now, all of us need to make two phone calls:

1: Call the White House Comment Line at *** 202-456-1111 *** and ask President Obama to appoint Gov. Howard Dean MD as Secretary of Health and Human Services

2: Then, call Sen. Max Baucus of Montana *** 202-224-2651*** – he chairs the Senate Finance Committee that needs to approve of the nominee. Ask him to publicly come out in support of Gov. Howard Dean MD as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

That’s it. Just take 2 minutes to make these two phone calls right now. Then, join the Facebook group and post on the wall about how your call went. If you don't have a Facebook account, it is very easy and quick to set one up.

Thanks, and remember, in the words of Gov. Dean, You have the power!

If you write on any blogs, please write a post today about why you support Gov. Dean for HHS. The more buzz we can build early, the better his chances. Put a link up in the FB group as well so we can all check out your post.

I second the nomination! He has all the credentials. If he has any drawback, it's that his Yankee Liburulism and former (successful!) chairmanship of the Dems causes kneejerk partisanship on the part of the GOP. 'Course, what doesn't?

Reasons for Howard Dean as HHS Secretary

We urge President Obama to appoint Gov. Howard Dean MD as the new Secretary of Health and Human Services.

    Why Gov Dean?

    - Dean was the longest-serving Democratic governor in the country when he opted not to run for his 6th full term; he twice won more than 70% of the vote for re-election, which is the very definition of bipartisan

    - He was elected chairman of the National Governors Association by a bipartisan group of 50 other members

    - He reformed health care in his state to provide universal coverage for children and pregnant women, an achievement that leveraged his experience as a medical doctor and reflected his practical approach as a governor

    - As DNC Chair, Gov Dean led the party's outreach to all 50 states. With his base of national support and experience reaching out, no-one in America is better poised to rally popular support for Obama's comprehensive reform bill than Dr. Dean

    - During his term Vermont paid off much of its public debt and he balanced 11 budgets despite being a rare state where that is not required by law

Re: Howard Dean for HHS Secretary

There is every reason to appoint Dean!

In fact, it was a poor move to name DASHY: he is close to and influenced by the insurance companies he worked with for some time. Not a good prescription for moving past insurance companies eating 20% of the money provided for health care, for their administrative costs AND profits. That, and having the power to deny coverage make it essential to re-evaluate using insurance company people to run our health care system by themselves.

Meranwhile, the cost of administering the govt program for senior health care (Medicare) is 3% !!!!

Getting health care out from under the insurance companies control would save that 17 % in costs to citizens...and would function smoothly as Medicare does.

Now...insurance companies are wormed into our "acceptance" of them...and have much power (remember Harry & Louise)...but when will they ever be challenged with reality?

    Dashy wouldn't.

Just maybe Dean--with his success at the state level in providing better health care to its residents--will at least put out some questions that MUST be answered. At hearings on the formulation of an advancement of care for all of our citizens, these questions NEED to be brought up, answered and insurance companies held responsible for the sad state of our UNITED STATES HEALTH!!...and its constantly rising costs.

    Get Dr. Dean!

Re: Howard Dean for HHS Secretary

Thanks for all you are doing to support Gov. Dean for HHS! Your hard work is paying off.

We just got word that Rep. Alan Grayson from Florida supports Dean for HHS:

    “He’s progressive, he’s experienced, he’s effective, and he’s vetted.”

Yesterday, Senator Tom Harkin from Iowa and Rep. Raul Grijalva from Arizona endorsed Gov. Dean for HHS.

These three endorsements in 24 hours are huge!

Now, help get your Senator and Representative on board. Here's the number for the Capitol switchboard. Call and ask for your Senator or Representative:

    (202) 224-3121

Let them know why you support Gov. Howard Dean MD for HHS and ask them to join you. Remember to be passionate, firm, and polite. (The phones are ringing off the hook right now so keep trying until you get through.)

Here are a few talking points to help with your call:

    * Howard Dean is a doctor. As a family physician for 11 years, he delivered health care to his patients. As Governor of Vermont for 11 years, he delivered health policies to his constituents that improved the quality and availability of care.

    * "Nobody did a better job on health care than he did as governor of Vermont. I thank him for that." - President Bill Clinton

    - 96% of Vermont children have health insurance and 99% are eligible for coverage under Governor Dean’s Dr. Dynasaur program.

    - As a result of early intervention programs established by Governor Dean, 89% of pregnant Vermont women enter prenatal care in their first trimester and 91% of families with newborns receive a voluntary home visit.

Call right now and ask for your Senator or Representative:

    (202) 224-3121

If you have an online account in Facebook, go to the Facebook group's wall and let us know how your call went. If you don't have a Facebook account, it is quick and easy to make one (Facebook | Welcome to Facebook).

Thanks and remember, you have the power!
