-Activist Quilt Raffle-


Activist squares started showing up at Peaceroots Alliance’s events and More Than Warmth founder Judy Meeker, suggested we put together an Activist Quilt.

Gathered by activist like Elizabeth Stinson director of the Peace and Justice of Sonoma. Some history in the making, during these times, this quilt is a wall hanging size approximately 4-1/2 ft/ x 6-1/2 ft. Some of the squares are drawn by these activist but not all.

Kathy Kelly, has taken many boxes of More Than Warmth quilts to children in Iraq and Afghanistan over the years. She is currently on a 400-mile march to the Republican convention from Chicago to Colorado.

No Nukes, Jackie Cabasso, Disarmament activist, director of Western States Legal Foundation seeks to abolish nuclear weapons.

Plenty International, Lisa Wartinger, Director. "To help and aid any people anywhere in the world who (suffer) due to any natural or man-caused disaster such as drought, famine, flood, storm, earthquake, tidal wave..." on going projects in "New Orleans and Central America"


Farms Not Arms, Linda Speel, FNA coordinator. Recently awarded “Peacemaker of the Year” by the Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma. As farmers, farm-workers and those in the agricultural industry who support them, we come together to oppose the war in Iraq and the dangerous cycle of war and terror that threatens our world. Signed by Michael O'Gorman founder. George Naylor Iowa farmer, Jim Cochran, strawberry farmer/veteran, FNA currently bringing Iraq war vets on to farms.

Wavy Gravy, long time political activist and clown. Wavy saw us making quilt squares at an event and when he heard about the project he said, " I want to make one!" He has founded many projects.

Col Ann Wright, retired United States Army colonel and retired official of the U.S. State Department, known for her outspoken opposition to the Iraq War. She is most noted for having been one of three State Department officials to publicly resign in direct protest of the March.

Gema Givens was born in Guatemala and is active with “Act Against Torture” and Courage to Resist. She just graduated from Berkeley High and is going to UC Santa Cruz in the fall.

The far right corner was created by Native American Artist/Activist/Actor, Michael Horse:
Michael is a member of AIM: the American Indian Movement and a lifelong advocate for Native Rights and the Rights of Nature. He is a gifted humanitarian.
Activist quilt is squares gathered at events in the SF Bay area by Peaceroots Alliance and Elizabeth Stinson Peace and Justice Center. Sewn together by Linda Hlady and Linda Speel. Currently we are selling tickets to raffle it off to benefit Farms Not Arms and the Farmer Veteran Coalition a non-profit organization helping returning veterans and farmers.
