I note the "anti-" crowd never mentions the SMART money will restore the freight lines that used to carry a lot of lumber that now clogs 101 on big trucks. I'd say if we get some big trucks off of 101 that's a big plus and the passenger line is just gravy.

We have to do something (I guess). The studies show SMART is relatively cheap by the mile even if it is expensive. Confused? Me too.

Today I'm thinking a tentative Yes vote.

I'm waiting for SonomaMark to chime in.

PS. The trains in France are pretty damn good. Too bad they run on nuclear power (which is in big trouble in France because they don't know where to put the waste.)

    Re: Measure Q - SMART

I think we should drill a well close enough to the core of the earth (which in our area would only be about 800 feet) and build a recycled-steam-powered geo-thermal generator, to power an electric, Two-Way-over-head, light-weight-high-speed, Silent-Magnetic-Levitation-Train that can easily run under or alongside the existing bridges °__° Single or double cars that can be added on with the commuter needs of the day -__-

Also a dispensable bike system at destination to provide local transportation -__-

It may include a separate car or train for freight °__° With it's non polluting green power it will quickly and economically transport the masses to the Golden Gates Glorious Metropolis and home again, every day ~__~ Perhaps it can run along the center lane of the freeway where needed -__- The technology for magnetic levitation trains and geo-thermal power already exists, locally at the 'Geysers' -__- Your pAL -,- Alkaline Al

    Re: Measure Q - SMART

    GREEDY TYCOONS OPPOSE SMARTRAIN;
for years and years and years people in Marin have voted down
    public trains
probably, and this is a guess...
Much money tied up in auto industry, freeway and highway building
    and repair, gasoline sales,
Plus they don't want the riff raff coming in
can you imagine if someone in Point Richmond could jump on a train
and be to downtown Ross in 15 min! steal a hubcap and back to Richmond inside an hour!
The old diesel Bus companies around the bay area probably have clout, and they know they are dinosaurs NO one uses them, you can walk faster than some routes, and bike much faster.
People in the bay area want their OWN everything especially that Ford Explorer, Lincoln town car , or a nice big HUMMER .
Sure the Smart train may not be the end all floating levitated magic
super wait till 2080 train. but I DON't CARE. basically ANY train
would be a relief at this point, and arguing over it is like arranging deck chairs on the Titanic . Lets just GET a train, we can improve on it later!

    Re: Measure Q - SMART

Our genuine need for a non polluting SMART is very clear -__-
The reason the old trains needed to be so heavy was to keep them on the tracks -__-
The Magnetic Levitation Trains, have a small foot print, are tons lighter and relatively easy to elevate -__-
Not to mention that MLT's are much faster than the old conventual methods - and are virtually silent - , -
Because they are free wheeling -,- No metal ever touches any surface -__-
Green, renewable, geo-thermal electricity seems smart ~__~
Clear and logical -__- Common sense to me =__=

+, Today the technology already exists !__!
Put some new age designers on it °__°
Until we get required results -__-
We can do this Right (°√°)
    Less expensive -,-
    Desirable - -
    Results...

    The time is:)
    RIGHT NOW ~~__~~
