Hello--

We've begun a weekly journal on our creation of a live theatrical animation (with puppets) of Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST, spanning the next 13 months, produced by Sonoma County Repertory and The Independent Eye.*

I'm posting monthly summaries, in hopes that you'll visit this weblog at https://www.independenteye.org/news/index.html. It includes sketches and, in the future, audio & video. Please add comments: we very much welcome response at every stage of the trek.

Tempest #3 - 10/1:
Elizabethan hats & power suits. Preparing rehearsals, story-boarding improvisations. Sea-change projections. Miranda's nose. Clown feet. Kantor's presence. Caliban in baseball cap? Prospero's exhaustion. Goddesses as foliage.

Tempest #2 - 9/14:
"Delicate" Ariel as fire and hurricane. A castrated Caliban? Shadows and the challenge of organic gesture. The island as Prospero's dream, a shifting visual field of alien backwaters.

Tempest #1 - 9/7:
Born of a grant application. Shakespeare and puppets. First sketches. Prospero as colonizer, master of ceremonies, or victim with absolute power? Aristophanic vision.*

Peace & joy--
