Soldier Schober from Rohnert Park to land at Sonoma County Airport

I am over here by the airport and there is quite a coo going on. Army Sgt. Anthony J. Schober is returning home to be buried...
The procession is about to begin... Police motorcyles, followed by the hearse, followed by Firefighters followed by cars, followed by more motorcycle policemen.

    Headed down Airport Blvd....

Here is from the PD about him:

The body of Army Sgt. Anthony J. Schober, of Rohnert Park, killed this month in Iraq, is coming home this morning.

He is expected to arrive by charter plane at about 11 a.m. at Sonoma County Charles M. Schulz Airport, said his grandfather, Robert Asper, of Rohnert Park.

The body will be escorted to Daniel’s mortuary in Santa Rosa by an American Legion escort team and CHP officers, and officers from Santa Rosa, Windsor and Rohnert Park police departments, said Ron Collier, Windsor Fire Chief who will be participating in an escort of the body.

Several fire departments will have trucks stationed along the route to also honor the fallen soldier.

The escort will go down Airport Boulevard to Highway 101, to Highway 12 by the fairgrounds to Brookwood Avenue to Daniels.

Schober was initially thought to have been among three soliders kidnapped in mid May by al-Qaida operatives.

It later was determined he’d died in a firefight, south of Baghdad, when the soldiers disappeared.

He’d been left unrecognizable in the firefight and was one of five killed. He was burned so badly only DNA testing could prove who he was.

Schober lived in Rohnert Park for several years with his mother and grandparents, Leona and Robert Asper.

Schober attended John Reed and Gold Ridge elementary schools before resettling in Carson City, Nev., when his mother remarried.

Robert Asper said the service will be 1 p.m., Thursday at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Today’s arrival was a last-minute notice to family, who heard from the military Monday, Robert Asper said.

It wasn’t clear initially where Schober was to be buried, as his parents live in different areas, Asper said. But a review of the soldier’s will indicated he wanted to be buried in Santa Rosa.

Schober was baptized as a catholic as a boy, so will be buried at the catholic cemetery, he said.
