    Pet Food Recall continues

I just heard last night that yet another dry food has been added to the recall list. Will this never end? How do people know anymore what is safe to feed their pets?

I am really glad that I switched to Flint River Ranch pet food a few years back. They do not use wheat gluten or any of the ingredients from Menu Foods. Their food is tested every 15 minutes and they do not use contract labs for testing. The food is fresh baked and delivered to your door. If you would like to learn more, go to my site:

    Re: Pet Food Recall continues

Actually, the problem with the FDA site is that the FDA has been sitting on the names of at least two companies since mid last week that it KNOWS has food contaminated with rice protein, but is leaving it up the companies to decide when they will announce any recall of their product. So the FDA may be the "official" source but it's certainly not the only one. At FETCH we're putting together a great article for the May issue on choosing a healthy commercial dog food; we'll be covering home made foods in upcoming issues.

Meanwhile, some of the best resources I've found for the truth:

    Dogged Blog
    Itchmo
    Pet Connection

The folks on these sites are among the most informed, including the back story on the FDA politics. It's an amazing shame what's going on.

The experts on pet nutrition are also asking us to get out the word that people should not overreact and just start feeding home made food without doing good research first. Many of the recipes circulating are not nutritionally balanced. For the best info on feeding, I recommend Dog Aware. This site is by a local Bay Area person who does not SELL dog food but researches nutrition carefully.

    Cheers,
    Sandy
