URGENT! Pls Attend the Santa Rosa Climate Action Subcommittee Mtg this Wed 3/10 at 4pm

    Hi folks,

Hope you are all doing well. We need a strong community showing at the Santa Rosa Climate Action Subcommittee meeting this coming Wednesday, March 10th at 4pm. You do not have to be a Santa Rosa resident to attend this critical meeting.

As you may or may not know, there is a 30-year lag between the time that greenhouse gases are emitted and when the effects are felt. The catastrophic wildfires, drought, and floods we are experiencing today are largely due to emissions from 30 years ago.

More wildfires are coming for us. Drought, etc. We need to show strong community support for urgent climate action in Santa Rosa as well as other parts of the county. Since it's a Zoom meeting, it's easier than ever to participate. Please attend, and please spread the word. And if you can ask some young people to speak, they make a really big impression. Thank you!

I am very sad to see WaccoBB go. I am grateful for Barry and this wonderful community and one last opportunity to call people to climate action. Barry, NextDoor can't touch what you have nurtured and achieved. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Subject: Attend the Santa Rosa Climate Action Subcommittee meeting this Wednesday, March 10th at 4pm.

    Dear climate activists,

This is an invitation to attend the Santa Rosa Climate Action Subcommittee meeting this coming Wednesday, March 10th at 4pm. You do not have to be a Santa Rosa resident to attend this critical meeting. The Subcommittee has been newly formed by Mayor Chris Rogers and the two other members are Natalie Rogers and Eddie Alvarez, both newly elected. The full agenda is attached.

We ask that you attend primarily as a 'show of force' to let the Mayor know that half-hearted action to address the climate crisis is no longer acceptable. As a council member, Chris Rogers has been a strong advocate for implementing climate policy. However, he has been largely uncommunicative since he became Mayor. Currently, Petaluma is outpacing all other cities in addressing the crisis.

The first agenda item for Wednesday's CAS meeting is an appeal to the public to suggest future agenda items. Here is a suggested list based on current items the city has been considering:

    1. Appoint or hire a Sustainability Director.
    2. The Sustainability Director should establish an Implementation Team.
    3. All New Development projects should be screened using Appendix E: New Development Checklist, Page E1 of the 2012 Community Climate Action Plan.
    4. Have a city staff member join the Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN).

    5. Have the Climate Action Subcommittee meet more often than every 2 months.
    6. Update the Santa Rosa Climate Action Plan that was created in 2012.
    7. Improve depth and quality of CAS agendas. Provide updated reports on all issues discussed in previous meetings as to their current status.

Other items to suggest could come from the Transportation, Agriculture and Building Energy sectors, since these three create almost all greenhouse gas emissions.

Now that the election is over, stronger action is a must.

    Thanks for your consideration.
