Most of us had to endure Lord of the Flies as required reading in high school or college. The difference between the fictional tale and the actual experience is striking. Here's my POV on factors contributing to the difference:
  • European vs. Pacific Islander culture
  • Desert God vs. tropical gods and goddesses (or maybe no deities?)
  • tweens vs. teens
  • passive arrival by airplane vs. active arrival by boat
