    Coronavirus Research

Great article here; I missed it when it first came out. One of the most extraordinary medical science adventures of all time has been playing out at UCSF. The researchers have identified several critical proteins that the virus uses to invade human cells, and then used this information to screen for effective anti-viral compounds, A dozen or so of these compounds are in clinical trials right now. Most of them are drugs that have already been cleared for treating other diseases.

Anywhere you stand regarding vaccines, this article is profoundly disturbing. The grift feeding frenzy is happening and tRump is right there fucking things up.

    Re: Coronavirus Research

The study published in the Lancet seems definitive to me. The study, which involved 14,888 patients who were treated with various hydroxychloroquine regimes, showed increased mortality and morbidity. Perhaps not as bad as drinking bleach, but more terrible advice from the tRump creature. He's sending some of the fools who follow him to their deaths.

    https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...180-6/fulltext

    Interpretation

We were unable to confirm a benefit of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, when used alone or with a macrolide, on in-hospital outcomes for COVID-19. Each of these drug regimens was associated with decreased in-hospital survival and an increased frequency of ventricular arrhythmias when used for treatment of COVID-19.

    Re: Coronavirus Research

A gene linked to dementia is associated with susceptibility to COVID-19. Obviously, this is a significant factor in the appalling death rate in assisted living facilities.

Given the disparity in the severity of COVID-19 between individuals and populations, it very likely that there are other significant genetic factors affecting the course of the disease. One example that I read about is the death of a ~40 year old mother and her two teenage children, this could be chance but the odds are >10,000/1 that it is not.
