    REMINDER FOR FIRE SEASON: From Fort Ross Volunteer Fire Department

    REMINDER FOR FIRE SEASON:

    If It Will Burn, Move It
    Would you pile kindling all around your house? Noooooo, of course not. But
    we do it all the time without realizing. So outdoors, move anything
    flammable *at least 5 feet away* from your structure.
    Consider where embers might land, catch, and spread fire to your home:
    * door mats
    * wood or wicker patio furniture, cushions
    * outdoor rugs or woven straw matting
    * worktables
    * decorative driftwood
    * overgrown vines and wood trellises
    * bamboo screening; outdoor shades
    * oak barrels & planter boxes
    * mulches & wood chips
    * wood pet ramps
    * kids' play structures
    * wood fences (replace w/ metal at least those critical 5 feet next to
    house)
    * tools w/ wood handles; brooms
    * propane & barbecue tanks
    * gas-powered tools
    * firewood
    * stored lumber
    Use only fire-resistant materials when decorating your outdoor living
    space: metal, ceramics, glass, stone and pebbles, shells, bricks, cement &
    cement board, mosaics, cobb, and other nonflammables. There is plenty of
    safe and beautiful stuff to fit every need. Find somewhere farther out for
    lumber, firewood piles, tools, and tanks.

    This reminder is from your neighbors at Fort Ross Volunteer Fire

    Department's Public Education Committee. Because fire is inevitable, but
    disaster doesn't have to be. www.frvfd.org
