    Take the Communion of Capitalism

Capitalism is the state religion of the world. America is the holy see of capitalism. Congress is the college of cardinals of capitalism and the president is the pope of capitalism. Citizens worship capitalism with religious fervor. They flagellate themselves for capitalism. Investors destroy the planet with the same insane devotion as Columbus destroyed the indigenous people he met, people who had not accepted the one true god of capitalism. Capitalism worships the one true god of Money. For Money so loved the humans that He sacrificed His only begotten Child, the Earth, to the forces of destruction and consumption so that His voice would never be stilled.

The death of Earth through fire will at last expunge the sins of human beings. Cast away your false gods of Christianity and Islam and Judaism. Money has defeated these false gods. Money is purifying the world through fire and soon flood. Grasp money and its twin profit. As the flames and soon the floods rise, seize money for money alone will save you. I am your god and you must have no god before me. Hear my voice roar above the flames: Money!

It's time to revive a radical agit prop proposal I made some years ago. Let us stealthily and secretly transform ATMs into devotional spaces. Place lighted candles on the ATMs. Turn them into the kind of roadside places of prayer you see in Mexico or in Florida. Flowers! Place flowers on the keyboards. Attach notes with capitalist homilies like "Jesus loves you for buying" or "Secure your place in heaven: spend!" or "Eternal Life is there for you: Invest!" Capitalism is America's state religion. We need to step up our practice. Worship Profit.

Capitalism is the state religion of America and most of the rest of the world. People believe in Capitalism in exactly the same way they believe in Christianity. No matter how many bishops and priests abuse children, Christians will continue to believe in the dogma of the church. The same is true of Trump. No matter how badly he acts and speaks, people will continue to worship him. Evidence means nothing to the Believer. Trump violates the constitution and his oath of office, but that does not change the religious fervor with which they worship him. Star Man

I can't go along with that appraisal, but I will grant you that greed exists, and it's not going away. It will express itself in any political/economic system.

Capitalism acknowledges this fact and tries to harness it and tame it, with mixed results. I think this is fundamentally the best approach, however more taming is desperately needed, especially in limiting capitalism ability to co-opt democracy, which is that main tool to tame its abuses and failures.

Yes, being a bit facetious. I remember a show about the way Walmart choose their suppliers. Many times the Walmart Rep would tell the potential suppler that their prices were too high and they should source from China. Walmart was a major creator of job loses in the US. Legal, guess so. There are many companies that put stockholders above anything else. Legal, guess so. What's the answer? Don't ask me at this point.

After receiving yet another solicitation from Warren and Sanders and dozens of other candidates, I responded as follows:

Elections are monetized. Capitalism wins. Everything is monetized and commodified. Sanders and Warren ask for money to defeat the moneyed interests of the corporate democrats. Votes are "bought" with advertising dollars. The electorate is treated as a consumer. The electorate remains uneducated. Money and capitalism and greed and an utter lack of spirituality are what brought us to this sorry pass. I am not donating. I don’t really have the money to donate. How about organizing neighborhood education groups instead of spending all your time and effort trying to raise money. When you ask for money you are not giving anything to citizens. Neighborhood educational groups would give something to citizens.
